Garrett Peck, Punting Lessons

On Wednesday and Thursday Garrett Peck a punter from the University of Northern Michigan was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a One on One Punting Lesson.

Garrett is a big, strong good looking punter. I first met Garrett at my PRO Development Camp in St. Paul Minnesota in June at Macalester College. At first glance he caught my eye when he launched a big punt during warm ups the first day at camp.

As I continued to watch, I noticed some major glitches in his technique. He had some drop, approach and crunching issues. I believe he realized he had some issues and wanted to refine his technique. So, he drove to Milwaukee, WI to get some One on One punting training.

Outside Drop

Garretts biggest problem was with his Drop. It was too much one-handed at times and too far outside. He was trying to wipe a spiral, rather than punt a spiral.
I introduced my Drop Progression and modified One Step Drills and Garrett started to improve. He was dropping the ball nose down and punting up and through the ball much better day two.

Garrett mentioned to me that he was not very flexiable. After watching him during my mirror drill (photo below) and showing him this photo his lack of punting up and through the ball was more technique than flexiablity.

As the day continued Garrett started punting up and through the ball and not crunching. He was punting and skipping downfield and turning over punt after punt.

I believe Garrett is very happy that he came to Milwaukee for a One on One Punting Lesson. He has the tools to take his game to the next level. Now, he needs to go back home and practice. Practice, practice and more practice. In three to four weeks his muscle memory will become automatic.

It was a pleasure working with Garrett Peck and I wish him the best of luck this upcoming season at University of Northern Michigan.
