Rob Maver Earns CFL Fifth Draft Pick

A year ago I first met Rob Maver, Canada's top rated combination punting and kicking specialists when he attended my PRO Development Camp at Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota in late June of 2009.

I could tell at that time that Rob was very driven and had a passion for punting and kicking. His goal was to be a professional punter or kicker either in Canada or the United States. And he was willing to do whatever it takes to take his game to the next level.

After our One on One Lessons in 2009 he told me he felt the One on One Lessons, the DVD of all the instruction and the drills were very beneficial in improving his technique. He had an excellent senior season and was ranked as the #1 or top specialists in this years CFL draft.

Several CFL teams and one NFL team had called me about Rob and wanted information about his potential. A kicking specialists in Canada or the CFL that can punt and kick is a very coveted player. He can be a very high draft selection because of the limited roster spots and the import or non-important rule.

Note: You need to check out the CFL roster limitation and rules on the number of USA or American players that can be on a CFL roster at one time.

A week ago Rob Maver was here in Scottsdale, Arizona for a One on One Punting and Kicking Lesson.

We worked on a couple of fundamentals that I felt would make him more consistent. Once again he was a quick study and improved rapidly. He was like a sponge picking up everything and anything that could make him better.

We had a couple of conversation about the upcoming draft and Rob was excited. He talked about a couple of his CFL workout and conversations with the three or four teams that had showed a lot of interested in him.

He thought everyone was great during his workouts and visits. However, when I dropped him off at the airport he mentioned he was hoping and praying that the Calgary Stampeders would take him in the first round with their number fifth draft pick.
On Sunday May 2, 2010 Rob Maver was the fifth player taken in the CFL (Canadian Football League) draft by the Calgary Stampeders.
I was very happy for Rob that not only his dream had come true but his hard work had paid off. He was now going to be a professional football player with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL.
However, I don't think Rob's story is done. This chapter is over but Rob could be writing some new chapters in years to come. If he keeps working hard and improving... watch out NFL.

He could be like a couple of other Canadian Players that made it big in the CFL and later jumped to the NFL. Similar to the stories of Mike Vanderjagt, Indianapolis Colts and Jon Ryan, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.
