Australian Rules Punters Working To Get To NFL.

Coach Zauner's PROGRAMS Producing Results For Specialists!

In the last couple of months,  I have been contacted by two Australian Rules punters that are looking to not only get better but also get more exposure to NFL teams.  Sam Irwin-Hill, Australian rules punter from the University of Arkansas was the first to contact me.  Next, Paul Jones Australian rules punter from Arkansas State University.

Two years ago Brad Wing came to Phoenix, Arizona and attended the PRO Development Camp in January to work and improve his punting technique.  Like Nick Novak (Chargers), Matt Overton (Colts), Brandon McManus (Denver Broncos), Brad Nortman (Panthers), Joe Cardona (NE Patriots), Morgan Cox (Ravens), Drew Butler (Cardinals), Kevin McDermott (Vikings) and Beau Brinkley all plus more have attended these camps looking to improve their Punting, Kicking or Snapping technique.

I have notice one thing about most Australian rules punters that have come to the United States and have played or are now playing college football. They all have natural foot skills, leg strength but most lack what I term a NFL punting technique. They can run and punt or punt on the run which is a part of their Australian rules football game but lack an, in the pocket NFL hang time punting technique.

I firmly believe if most Australian rules punters were coached better on a NFL punting technique they would have a better chance of making the transition from the college game to the NFL.

In 1994 Darren Bennett came to San Diego looking to make the transition from Aussie Rules Football to the NFL. He received coaching and played in the 1995 NFL Europe Football League for one season.  He came back from Europe and in his first 1995 NFL Season with the San Diego Chargers, he was selected to the PRO Bowl.

Sam Irwin-Hill and Paul Jones both have selected another path.  Both men have been referred to me by other college specialists knowing they must get better and in need of more exposure to NFL teams.

Coach Zauner's College Senior and Free Agent Combines are producing exposure and results for many college specialists NOT invited to the Senior Bowl or NFL Combine.

I hope Sam and Paul have benefited from their ONE on ONE Punting Lessons. Paul is looking to attend the Coach Zauner 2016 College Senior Combine and Sam has just qualified for the 2016 Free Agent Combine.

Listen to both of their testimonials after ONE on ONE Lessons with Coach Zauner.

Sergio Castillo Kicks 41 Yard Game Winner For Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Coach Zauner with Sergio Castillo His Freshman Year at West Texas A & M
I first met Sergio Castillo when he was a college freshman at West Texas A & M.  After seeing him kick for the first time, I must say Sergio has improved leaps and bounds on his field goal and punting technique and that is why he is now playing professional football.

After four years of College Football at West Texas A & M Sergio received the Fred Mitchell Award and was selected as the All American Kicker for his division.

After attending my College Senior Combine he was signed by the Atlanta Falcons.  The following year he attended my Free Agent Combine which featured 25 NFL Teams and 4 CFL Teams.  The CFL teams that attended were all over him after watching him kick and punt.  The Hamilton Tiger Cats signed him and put him on their practice squad but later had to make a roster move and had to release him.

The Toronto Argonauts wanted him earlier in the year but now the Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed him.  Isn't it nice to be wanted. Basically all the teams that saw him at my Free Agent Combine were in hot pursuit.

Since he has been up in Canada Sergio has called me every week with an up date.  Last week he called and gave me the good news.  "Coach,  their starting me this weekend."  He has worked hard and deserves the chance.

He got his start and has made the most of it.  He kicked four field goals and his 5th was a 41 yard Game Winner!    It doesn't get any better than that!  Way to go Sergio!  Continued Success.

Spencer Lanning Cleveland Browns - Mr. Punt, Pass & Kick

Spencer Lanning - Mr. Punt, Pass & Kick
Spencer Lanning (U. of South Carolina & Cleveland Browns)

On November 22nd, Spencer Lanning became the first player since 1968 to punt, kick an extra point and throw a touchdown pass during an NFL game. It sounds crazy because, well, it is.
You could say it was a very special Sunday for the Brown’s special team standout.  Not only did Spencer’s efforts help Cleveland defeat Minnesota, his performance also earned him recognition as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

It’s safe to assume that the former South Carolina punter is living on cloud nine right about now. Who wouldn’t be? It would be wrong to assume, however, that the road to the promise land wasn’t full of detours.
Coach Zauner first met Spencer Lanning after his senior year at the University of South Carolina.  As a junior, the Lou Groza semifinalist realized that playing professional football was a real possibility and he was to take his game to the next level.

Spencer came to Coach for ONE on ONE Lessons, wanting to sharpen his skills and improve in areas that had caused him issues in the past. Through recording drills and assessments, Coach Zauner was able to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses in Spencer’s technique in order to successfully map out his ‘Specialist’s Path to PRO Football’.
Spencer Lanning Works on a Consistent Drop
After several ONE on ONE Lessons, Spencer Lanning was ready to prove himself to NFL coaches and scouts. With a former coach and respected member of the football community in his corner, Spencer was prepared for the road ahead.
In 2011, Spencer was signed as an undrafted Free Agent to the Chicago Bears.
In 2012, he was signed as a free agent to the Jacksonville Jaguars…
…then picked up off waivers by the New York Jets and then by the Cleveland Browns.

Then Coach Zauner recommended Spencer to the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL.  Unfortunately the league folded after four games.

Finally in February 2013, Spencer Lanning made a landing in the Buckeye State as the Cleveland Browns re-signed him as a free agent.
It was anything but smooth, but I’d be willing to bet that Spencer is perfectly fine with where the ‘Specialist’s Path’ he took to pro football.

We couldn’t be happier with his recent accomplishments and are grateful to have played some small part in his extraordinary journey.

Spencer Lanning’s story exemplifies what is possible with drive, dedication and a willingness to learn. Coach Zauner started his specialist camps and programs to create a ‘Field of Dreams’ where aspiring players could learn what it takes to make it to the next level.

We’ve all heard the saying, “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and we’re here to help you find your way down a ‘Specialist’s Path to PRO Football’. It was a pleasure meeting and working with Spencer and I wish him the best of luck in the future.
